Each student will spend the internship period conceptualizing and producing a final project related to the Khayrallah Center’s mission and holdings. At the completion of the internship, each intern makes a final presentation of learning.

One student will focus on archival management and primarily work with Lead Archivist Laura Lethers in the KCLDS Archive. The internship will provide hands-on archival experience and training; associated duties will include but not be limited to handling of archival materials, digitization, metadata work, data entry, and uploading digitized material to public-facing databases.

One student will focus on public history and primarily work with Director of Research Lindsey Waldenberg. The internship will include but not be limited to working with the KCLDS archival collections, conducting research, and developing a digital humanities project or similar public history product in line with the Khayrallah Center’s mission.

Along with developing valuable skill sets and gaining direct experience related to public history and archival management, interns will participate in professional development workshops designed to introduce different technologies and software used in managing archives, research, and the practice of public history. Interns will also meet with select NCSU faculty and speakers to discuss future studies and career options. Together, these experiences will broaden interns’ knowledge in these fields and enhance their personal and professional development.

Each student commits to 35 hours per week in the internship. This time includes professional development opportunities and field trips to area cultural institutions. Optional social outings will be scheduled as well. Pay is $15/hour and university housing is provided upon request.

The internship will take place June 3–July 26, 2024.
